Opportunity Council, Financial Stability Specialist
Opportunity Council is a private non-profit community action agency serving Whatcom, Island and San Juan counties. Opportunity Council helps people improve their lives through education, support, and direct assistance. The Financial Stability program brings together employment readiness and financial literacy programming that helps clients gain employment in the community, increase financial literacy, and start on the path to financial stability. This project will be focused on increasing the capacity of the classes that are offered under the program umbrella. This includes facilitating in the job search/vocational computer lab, working one-on-one with clients on job search materials, teaching employment and life skill classes, teaching financial capability classes, and coordinating and developing additional financial stability curricula and delivery mechanisms. Members will also create promotional materials, reach out to new clients, and support community members with tax preparation as an FSA during tax season. Members will also assist in recruiting, training and managing volunteers in the program. This position is contingent on funding. Applications will be reviewed in the order in which they are received with interviews taking place until placement is filled.

Member Duties : Teaches employment readiness, financial literacy and asset building classes; Facilitates vocational computer lab; Assists in the creation of engaging research driven curriculum; Assists in self assisted tax preparation site and creates and updates tax preparation flyers; Assists in the creation of Asset Building Coalition meeting agendas and prepares meeting minutes.
