A Kid's Place

A Kid’s Place is an umbrella agency that houses two significant programs that help child victims of sexual abuse, physical abuse, neglect and witness to crime. Clients receive crisis intervention and support to increase their safety and well- being, influencing school achievement, healthier relationships and increased graduation rates. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) matches a trained community volunteers with a child aged birth through 18 who is involved in the dependency and neglect courts. The CASA volunteer visits the child weekly, advocates for them and shares vital information with the courts and other professionals. In 2015, 90 CASA volunteers served 208 child victims. The Child Advocacy Center in Greeley and the satellite center in Ft. Lupton provide a child focused environment where child victims are forensically interviewed and their non-offending family members are provided family support and resources. In 2015, the CAC served 313 child victims and 669 parents and other family members. A Kid’s Place also implements Stewards of Children/ Darkness to Light workshops designed to educate and prepare adults in our community to deal with and prevent child sexual abuse. Our program activities are instrumental in solving the larger issue of poverty eradication because by increasing the knowledge of the community to protect children and increase child well being, we have fewer child victims that will have trouble recovering and moving forward from their trauma. There will be greater success in school, college and career when ongoing issues from childhood trauma are not inhibiting a child’s ability to succeed. A Kid’s Place has a long history of community problem solving in the area of child abuse and neglect, working with Law Enforcement, Child Protective services, courts, mental health and medical providers, schools, faith communities and other community agencies. We are in our 20th year of service to the community.

Member Duties : The Community Outreach VISTA member will work in a “small but mighty” non- profit agency with 10 professional staff members. They will work closely with the Business and Development Manager and the Executive Director to enhance outreach and awareness activities to the community and to assist with increasing the capacity of the programs and numbers of children we serve. The VISTA member will help ensure that a wider segment of our community is aware of our goal of helping children heal from abuse and neglect and that adults can help kids safe. The VISTA member will work closely with the Lead CASA Case Supervisor to implement a plan for enhanced processes and activities for reaching and recruiting a more diverse group of CASA volunteers. This includes presentations and outreach to faith and community groups, work with social media, and staffing at agency fairs. The VISTA member will build prevention education components into our new website.
