ShareCorps-Akron Canton FB-Voices Capacity Coordinator

The mission of the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank is to lead a collaborative network that empowers people to experience healthy and hunger-free lives. We distribute food to feed people and we advocate, engage and convene our community in the fight to end hunger. The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank provides food and other essential items to member agencies in eight Northeast Ohio counties: Carroll, Holmes, Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit, Tuscarawas and Wayne. These member agencies operate 500 food pantries, hot meal sites, shelters and other hunger-relief programs in the neighborhoods and communities where people need food. The Foodbank envisions a thriving community free of hunger. Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank is a VISTA sub-site of the Ohio Association of Foodbanks ShareCorps project.

Member Duties : The VISTA member will support the Pathways for Community Voices (Voices) project which uses the principles of community-based participatory research to identify methods and measures to facilitate meaningful feedback loops among clients, member agencies and local Foodbanks. The cyclical loops promote co-learning and empowerment that moves from communication to action and transformation. The VISTA will listen to clients, collect and process data, to develop communication strategies that will inform the hunger relief system at the local, state and national level. Assist in the planning and facilitation of focus groups with clients to better understand the data collected during agency visits. Provide guidance to agency partners to implement changes to programs that better serve clients without creating additional burdens on the agency. Akron-Canton Foodbank is one of two foodbanks in the nation selected for this pilot project, be a part of this innovative opportunity!
