ShareCorps- Ethiopian Social Services- Strategic Planning

Our mission is to assist immigrant and refugee families and low income individuals in Central Ohio improve the quality of their lives, and facilitate integration through education, training and supportive services, and self-development opportunities and to increase awareness of the culture and heritage of Central Ohio’s immigrant and refugee population. ETSS provides services to both adults and children and has served people from over 40 countries, including Somalia, Bhutan, Nepal, Iraq, Burma, Ethiopia, and Eritrea. ETSS is unique in its ability to provide culturally appropriate services in both English and other languages. The Adult Program has three sites in Columbus, one on the North side and two on the West side. Our services include employment assistance, ESL courses, and case management. The Youth Program operates seven After School Program sites across Franklin County and serves low-income immigrant and refugee youth in grades K-12. The first goal of the program is to ensure that students are making significant academic progress. The program also uniquely provides cultural enrichment and social skills development. During the summer months, ETSS offers an eight week Summer Enrichment Camp, to help prevent academic learning loss and provides extracurricular activities that promote physical activity. The ETSS Family Care Department raises awareness, educates, and advocates for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. We receive funding through the Victim's of Crime Act (VOCA) and the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), which is through the Franklin County Department of Homeland Security, to primarily serve refugee and immigrant families in Central Ohio. Our program aims to empower immigrants and refugees by giving them a voice and providing them with the tools and information needed to combat violence. ETSS is a VISTA sub-site of the Ohio Association of Foodbanks ShareCorps program.
