Texas Conservation Corps- Austin YMCA AmeriCorps Member
 
 
 
As an affiliate of The Corps Network's national AmeriCorps Education Awards Only (EAP) program, TxCC at American YouthWorks has partnered with the YMCA of Austin and other local organizations to launch the Department of Interior's "Play Learn Serve Work" Youth Initiative. The primary objective of the AmeriCorps Member is to assist the YMCA’s Community Coordinator to advance the Department of Interior’s youth initiative thereby increasing community population’s connections to nature and engagement on public lands. The goal of this initiative is to: Connect youth, families, and entire communities to public lands through outdoor recreation, educational programming, service projects and employment training opportunities. Develop partnerships with municipalities, non-profit organizations, schools, health care providers and other stakeholders to help young people develop strong, lasting connections to nature and public lands. Develop leadership opportunities for the next generation of environmental stewards by increasing service opportunities and engaging entire communities in partnership with public, private and nonprofit representatives.

Member Duties : Through a national partnership with The Corps Network, the member will assist the YMCA of Austin's Community Coordinator to: • Reach out to community groups to promote programming, participation and collaboration. • Facilitate engagement with public land management agencies (including but not limited to DOI) and partnering organizations. • Promote programming that connects youth to the outdoors to play, learn, serve and work. • Create relevant and sustainable programs that strengthen and increase volunteer engagement on public lands, including but not limited to lands managed by the bureaus of the Department of the Interior. • Help organize events, such as the Summit. • Provide project support in data collection including number of volunteers engaged in projects as well as opportunities for kids and families to “Play” and “Learn” in these projects.
