College Health Corps, MCTC Student Support Center

Minneapolis Community and Technical College (MCTC) is an urban and diverse 2 year college serving nearly 12,000 students, 56% students of color, and many low-income and first generation college students. The college mission is to make individual dreams achievable by providing access to learning opportunities that prepare students to live and work in a democratic society within a global community. The MCTC Student Support Center provides an array of non-academic services for students in need of assistance with food, housing referrals, and child care, counseling, sexual violence/ harassment and many other community and campus services. The VISTA will have the opportunity to develop partnerships, programming, and volunteers; conduct research; and seek out new funding streams, among other opportunities. Most students who come to the Student Support Center are parents with young children who are working to balance family, school, work and other life obligations. The Center helps them access health insurance, food, knowledge regarding resources available and permanent and safe housing. Services provided at the Center help students stay in college, focus on their educational goals, and achieve their dreams. *** This project is part of the College Health Corps (CHC) VISTA Program. The CHC increases low-income individuals’ access to health care, health education, and food and nutrition through capacity building projects, including partnerships between higher education and community based organizations. Professional development focuses on health equity, the social determinants of health, and effective partnership development.***Interviews will occur on a rolling basis. Preference given to candidates who apply early. Candidates must also email a resume and cover letter.
