AmeriCorps VISTA - CHS Woodland

Service Description : The mission of Children’s Home Society of California is to reach out to children and families at risk with a range of services that ensure every child the opportunity to develop within a safe, healthy, and secure environment. Celebrating 125 years of service to children and families, CHS has recently opened an office in the community of Woodland, located just 20 miles west of Sacramento in Yolo County. The CHS Yolo VISTA will play a key role in helping to establish CHS in Yolo by increasing awareness of services through outreach and conducting a community needs assessment of low-income families, which will help to inform development of collaborative partnerships with other organizations and development of future programs. This person will develop a volunteer unit to support school readiness and literacy events for parents. She/he will proactively identify and develop collaborations with organizations providing complementary services to families to enhance service coordination and referrals. She/he will identify existing community assets and utilize them in developing programming. The ideal candidate will have exceptional research, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving skills, also strong community outreach and engagement skills. He/she has a strong interest in collaborations and partnerships. He/she will ideally have experience conducting community needs assessments and managing volunteers. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone who desires to learn skills that are essential in the nonprofit sector and make their mark through several different projects. It is ideal for a self-starter who wishes to immerse him or herself in learning about the diverse needs of families throughout Yolo and identifying programs and services to meet those needs. She/he will gain valuable experience in the early childhood development field.
