Chisholm Trail RSVP-Christian Community Action (CCA)

For more than 40 years, Christian Community Action (CCA) has been healing, feeding, and educating families in need throughout Collin, Dallas, Denton, Tarrant and Wise counties in North Texas. Headquartered in Lewisville, TX, CCA is one of the largest private nonprofits in North Texas, providing more than 10,000 individual services each year. Through careful case management, CCA’s holistic approach from rescue to transition helps families in need achieve self-sufficiency by offering a “hand-up” instead of a hand-out. Available programs include: the Adult Health Center, Food Pantry, Spiritual Care and Counseling, Vocational/Education Services, Case Management Services and Seasonal Programs. The Life Skills and Job Readiness VISTA will build CCA's capacity to impact job placement needs through provision of job ready individuals who are currently unemployed or underemployed. The VISTA will assess current job and education services, develop policies and procedures, and implement relevant and useful service changes to impact the job readiness of individuals. AmeriCorps VISTA members perform only indirect service; interaction with clients will be limited and the member will spend the majority of his or her time in an office setting. However, the CCA VISTA will play a dynamic role in ending poverty by impacting job readiness for individuals thus transitioning them out of crisis to self-sufficiency. As a CCA VISTA you will be part of a cohort coordinated by the AmeriCorps VISTA North Texas project at Chisholm Trail RSVP, Inc. Early applications strongly encouraged. Member Duties : As a VISTA Member at Christian Community Action (CCA), you will help end poverty by impacting job readiness for individuals thus transitioning them out of crisis to self-sufficiency. Major functions include cultivating a full understanding of CCA's mission and programs to determine effective service approaches, developing strategies to enhance student engagement, identifying student engagement barriers, developing tools to overcome identified barriers and reviewing curriculum for appropriateness and that it is effectively measuring student success. VISTAs serve their communities through indirect service. The programs developed by the Life Skills and Job Readiness VISTA will endure for years, however the VISTA member will have limited interaction with CCA clients and will be based in an office setting. Applicants should possess strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent time management skills, be punctual, reliant, assertive and self-motivated.
