Literacy KC: University of Missouri Extension Program Coord.
In today’s economy, MU Extension’s primary emphasis is on jobs. MU Extension advises small business owners; helps displaced workers find new jobs; provides education for families to make better financial decisions; prepares young people with skills for the future workforce; helps farmers be more profitable; and works with local leaders to help them make wise decisions for their communities. MU Extension programs in agriculture, community development, human environmental sciences, business development, youth development and continuing education tap into university research to respond to Missourians’ current needs, particularly in KC’s urban core. University of Missouri Extension is a sub-site of the Literacy KC VISTA Program. The Literacy KC VISTA Program seeks to address illiteracy through a concentration on traditional literacy as well as health literacy, financial literacy, and digital literacy. The VISTA members and organizations that participate in the Literacy KC VISTA Program take a holistic, collaborative approach to literacy, building the organizations’ capacity to serve their clients, and addressing poverty in the Kansas City metropolitan area.
