SerVermont - Vermont Youth Conservation Corps

VYCC’s mission is to teach young people personal responsibility through meaningful paid work that connects us to the land, community, and one another. We are committed to giving opportunities to young women, at-risk youth, low-income youth, and other traditionally underserved and underrepresented young people in the conservation and farming sectors. We work to alleviate the effects of poverty and of growing up in low-income families by: • Providing paid employment and/or academic credit within structured educational programs for young people aged 15-26. • Setting our annual crew hiring goals to include positions for youth that face academic and socioeconomic challenges (identified as the federal definition of “low-income” status). • Preparing participants for future success in the workplace by teaching transferrable skills and values that set them on a path to personal success. • Donating food grown by our Food and Farm Program to local food-insecure Vermont families who cannot access or afford fresh produce and poultry. • Partnering with multiple organizations to provide the Food and Farm Program’s Health Care Shares and nutrition education services to food-insecure families across Vermont.

Member Duties : The VYCC Development & Marketing VISTA will focus on four major projects: manage our alumni outreach and relations; assist in fundraising for our Food and Farm’s Health Care Share program; manage our annual online Holiday Auction; work with the Development and Marketing team to strengthen our recruitment of low-income Vermonters for our programs. These project areas are all vital to both funding parts of our work and also deepening our relationships with our alumni, community partners, and our future recruits. This VISTA position will help us significantly expand our alumni connections, assisting them find future employment and continuing education in the field, as well as helping us increase new recruitment of low-income youth.
