Propeller Water Program Associate, AmeriCorps*VISTA
 
 
 
At the heart of Propeller’s mission lie our impact accelerators which provide mentorship, access to networks and financing, and focused curriculum to connect local innovators with the resources they need to impact our city and build sustainable businesses. We concentrate our time and resources on a select number of sector strategies in order to focus our impact on crucial issues. In the last four years, Propeller has successfully accelerated 90 ventures through the Impact Accelerator. Moving forward into 2016, we are expanding our program to accelerate over 40+ ventures each year. The next two years are a crucial turning point for Propeller and the VISTA program will be a critical component of expanding the accelerator programs an deeply impacting the most pressing issues in New Orleans in the areas of educational equity, healthy food, healthcare, and water. The AmeriCorps*VISTA members would be key to expanding the capacity of the organization to ensure we can successfully grow our programming, collect the data needed for evaluation, and develop new systems and processes organization-wide while optimally serving the entrepreneurs in our programs. VISTA members who will work closely with the team here at Propeller for the next three years to expand our capacity, build infrastructure, develop and implement codified, repeatable systems for consistent quality control, develop evaluation and data collection processes, secure long-term resources, and coordinate trainings in the areas of communication, development, technology, database, evaluation, performance management, and operations.

Member Duties : Goal of the Project: To design and implement systems and materials that will expand the capacity and effectiveness of Propeller, which will grow the number of social enterprises served impacting the social, environmental, and economic problems of New Orleans in the water sector, which includes urban water, coastal restoration, and the local water economy. Our work in water addresses the pressing problems in urban water management and coastal restoration that disproportionately affect impoverished neighborhoods, making them vulnerable to natural disasters. In urban neighborhoods, effective water management through improved green infrastructure can prevent nuisance flooding of homes and businesses while improving the quality of life of residents. In coastal areas, new products, services, and financing mechanisms can improve the efficacy and quantity of restoration work that can be undertaken by state agencies and private parties.
