Literacy Mid-South VISTA Project

The Literacy Mid-South VISTA Project seeks to build the capacity of after school programs to implement evidence driven reading programming. With VISTA member support, project host sites commit to embedding literacy instruction into their existing programming, whether that is homework help or tutoring. Literacy Mid-South will serve as an intermediary for our after school program partners. Those sites include: Streets Ministries, Memphis Athletic Ministries, Refugee Empowerment Program, the Memphis Public Library, Agape Hickory Hill, and Girls Inc. This position will require serious dedication and hard work, but will be so rewarding for anyone who wants to work in non profits or elementary education.

Member Duties : The Volunteer Systems Manager will be charged with helping each organization create a volunteer management system. Although the VISTA cannot engage in direct service, which includes volunteer management, they are allowed to create a strong system for volunteers. This includes creating a volunteer database, resources, developing trainings, and designing volunteer appreciation events.
