OneStar Foundation Disaster Resiliency VISTA

Do you love breakfast tacos, BBQ, live music, kayaking, and more festivals than there are weeks in the year? We sure do! How about helping communities be more resilient to disaster? We like this too! OneStar Foundation, located in listicle-topping Austin, Texas is a supporting nonprofit of the Office of the Governor whose purpose is to strengthen the capacity of the nonprofit sector to enable communities to more effectively solve social challenges, including during times of disaster. As the Texas State Service Commission, OneStar administers the AmeriCorps*Texas program and also plays an important role as a point of contact for National Service In the State of Texas Emergency Management Plan. OneStar is also tasked with helping to coordinate Spontaneous Unaffiliated Volunteers (SUV’s) through Volunteer Reception Centers (VRC’s) and the online VolunteerTX.org portal. OneStar works closely with the Texas Division of Emergency Management and Texas Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (TX VOAD), and many more great organizations to build and support community disaster resilience throughout the State of Texas.

Member Duties : There have been 338 disaster declarations in Texas since 1953, by far the most of any State!
