2018-2019 City of San Antonio My Brother's Keeper VISTA
Locally, MBK will coordinate with other strategies that connect youth with opportunity and help young people build healthy relationships with themselves, their families and their community. Dedicated to improving opportunity gaps the steering committee led by former Mayor Ivy R. Taylor drafted a strategic plan with established long-term goals. The six main goals include ensuring all youth graduate from high school, ensuring all youth complete post-secondary education or training, ensuring all youth out of school are employed, ensuring all youth are safe from violent crime, ensuring all youth convicted or incarcerated receive opportunity to lead a productive life, and ensuring that local efforts are sustainable. “Our vision for My Brother’s Keeper in San Antonio is to encourage young men of color to take advantage of the opportunities life presents,” former Mayor Ivy R. Taylor said. “We have challenging neighborhoods in our city, but we’re working hard to change this narrative and make San Antonio a place with expectations that also provides second chances.”
