Virginia State Parks Interpretive Trail Project

Virginia State Parks AmeriCorps Interpretive/Trail Project is an opportunity to be involved in increasing conservation awareness and appreciation for valuable natural, cultural and historical resources in Virginia. Reduced part-time members will serve 675 hours at a state park between April and August. Schedules are flexible and determined by the site supervisor at the park and the selected member. Members will assist with and lead interpretive programs in the park for park visitors. Members will also conduct educational outreach activities in surrounding communities. Members will work with park staff to develop and lead volunteer trail improvement projects. Members will be responsible for engaging volunteers for trail improvement projects in their park of service. Virginia State Parks will provide in-depth trail improvement training and AmeriCorps orientation at a mandatory training workshop April 8-10 at Twin Lakes State Park. Members will also receive interpretive training at an Interpretive Training workshop in May. In return for a dedicated season of service members will receive a small monthly living allowance (up to $3800 for 5 months, taxable) and upon successful completion be eligible for the Segal Education Award of $2182.78. Housing is available at a limited number of parks. Please see our Virginia State Parks website www.virginiastateparks.gov and register as an AmeriCorps 2016 volunteer at the park (or parks) where you are interested in serving. Your AmeriCorps application will be sent to the site supervisor at the parks you select. Applicants will be interviewed and selected by park site supervisors. All positions will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.
