The AmeriCorps Team will work to support and expand college access activities at Havre High School, Box Elder High School, and the Boys and Girls Club of the Hi-Line. Provide college students with meaningful service activities and community engagement opportunities to instill and support the benefits of life-long service to their community. These activities will support the community because only Approximately 60% of student who graduate high school go on to attend post-secondary education, slightly lower than the national average and only 77% of those students actually earn a one year’s worth of college education by the end of their 2nd year. Havre High School’s graduation rate has decreased from 2012 – 2014 and falls 13% behind the Montana graduation rate. In addition, the Math Proficiency rate is 57%, which shows that a significant portion of Havre High Students are not proficient in Math. Each MTCC AmeriCorps Team Member will commit to serving a 300 hour or 450 hour term of service (approximately 10-20 hours/week) during the academic year and part of the summer, if needed.
