Serve New York mobilizes AmeriCorps VISTA members to serve organizations, government agencies, and educational institutions focused on the needs of veteran and military families, improving and expanding educational opportunities for disadvantaged youth, and creating economic opportunity. The goal of Serve New York is to strengthen communities across the State and to allow organizations within them to better provide services to impoverished individuals and families. The VISTA member will assist in compiling data and helping find resolutions for foreclosures to eliminate blight neighborhoods while helping families find resolutions to their foreclosure issues.

Member Duties : 1) Work with the Law Center as they coordinate the Distressed Properties Taskforce of The City of Buffalo to address the problem of vacant and abandoned properties in the City of Buffalo. 2) Help with coordination of meetings of the Distressed Properties Task Force. 3) Identify and analyze foreclosure data in Erie County and identify and chart the municipalities and neighborhoods where foreclosures are most frequent; track and chart vacant properties in the City of Buffalo for Task Force use. 4) Identify and secure funding sources for continuation of this work. 5) Develop and implement outreach plans
