Serve New York 2016: Wayne CAP
 
 
 
Serve New York mobilizes AmeriCorps VISTA members to serve organizations, government agencies, and educational institutions focused on the needs of veteran and military families, improving and expanding educational opportunities for disadvantaged youth, creating economic opportunity, and . The goal of Serve New York is to strengthen communities across the State, and to allow organizations within them to better provide services to impoverished individuals and families. The Serve New York program has partner organizations across New York State, in Buffalo, Rochester, Lyons, Ithaca, and White Plains. While serving, members receive support from the VISTA team at The Service Collaborative of WNY, Inc. The support includes monthly trainings, a social network of fellow members, and daily support from VISTA leaders.

Member Duties : Since 1966 Wayne County Action Program, Inc., a community action agency, has offered programs to help individuals achieve self-sufficiency. Our agency advocates for those in need by collaborating with other agencies to provide a unified delivery system in Wayne County. The VISTA member’s project will support economically disadvantaged adults, by developing an agency infrastructure as we move towards HIPAA compliance and participation in the Medicaid services provision system. The member will conduct needs assessments, identify gaps in services, and research solutions to build the capacity of the agency’s Medicaid services. This work will allow Wayne CAP to better serve clients in need of these services.
