Mountain View Community Center

Mountain View Community Center (MVCC) resides in the small community of Edgewood, Washington in East Pierce County and is part of what has come to be known as the North Hill. The creation of the Center was part of a larger vision to build a new home for the Edgewood NOURISH Food Bank that was on the campus of Mountain View Lutheran Church. These three separate non-profits, alongside general community support, work together to build community, ease isolation, and combat food insecurity for the most vulnerable. We offer internal programs and host other service providers to build successful kids, hopeful families, and active seniors in our community. Monthly, we provide 3,000 meals and snacks to hungry children through our weekend food pack program and 400 dinners to food bank clients and locals looking for a hot meal and company. Twice each week, 40 seniors attend an exercise class and share lunch. In 2018, we recorded over 4,000 hours of volunteer service to make these programs possible. Fife School District is home to over 100 McKinney Vento students who have no place to call home. 57 of these students in the elementary schools currently receive weekend food packs from MVCC. 60 preschool aged students attend our local ECEAP Program with a third of these families relying on MVCC for food to help sustain them over the weekend. Our Senior programs and classes ease isolation and promote whole person wellness to an aging population living in a small, rural community with very few resources close at hand. All our Senior offerings are free and open to all seniors in our community. This position is contingent on funding. This position is open until filled.”

Member Duties : MVCC is excited to be expanding our programs and services in 2019-2020. For the upcoming school year, our goal is to expand the reach of the current weekend food program to cover all McKinney Vento students in the Fife School District and to increase service to students in our local ECEAP Program. The AmeriCorps Member will work with staff and volunteers to pack food, organize food drives, inventory food collected and distributed, and assist with distribution.
