DOI/VISTA Take it Outside! New Mexico

TIONM! is a partnership including the Bureau of Land Management-Las Cruces, the Lincoln National Forest, White Sands National Monument, Mesilla Valley Bosque State Park, Oliver Lee Memorial State Park, Asombro Institute for Science Education, Las Cruces Museum of Natural History, the Alameda Park Zoo in Alamogordo, New Mexico State University STEM program, Dona Aña Groundworks, and local municipal and county government institutions. It is not a single entity or organization – it is a concept – a collaboration. It is a group of partners joining resources to help youth and families in southern New Mexico by using our resources and lands as educational, healthy backdrops and stages to help improve local communities. The VISTA will help this group to become a solid fixture in Dona Aña and Otero Counties by helping the partnership to develop a five year plan that includes fundraising, networking and vision development.

Member Duties : The DOI/VISTA will develop opportunities for underserved populations, particularly at-risk youth, to engage in experiential outdoor learning, serving, playing and working in their public lands. These experiences will raise awareness of the economic opportunities presented by continued study, employment, and careers in conservation related fields. The DOI/VISTA will develop resources and implement fundraising strategies that will build the capacity to support the initiatives of Take It Outside, NM, and support partner agencies to reach underserved communities and build pathways out of poverty through environmental education, youth employment and stewardship building.
