AmeriCorps Disaster Recovery - SBP
SBP is a national disaster relief organization that aims to shrink time between disaster and recovery. Our goal is to return families home in a cost-efficient and predictable time frame in hopes of lessening the stress and trauma caused after a disaster. Since forming after Hurricane Katrina, SBP has leveraged over 120,000 volunteers to rebuild over 1300 homes. In order to achieve our goal, we leverage AmeriCorps members who serve as Client Service, Supply and Logistic, and Volunteer Coordinators, or as Construction Project Leads. As a member of SBP, you will become a part of the growing national service movement and get the opportunity to develop professional and disaster-response skills with a dynamic organization that is pioneering a new model for disaster recovery. Members serve in virtually all facets of SBP's operation, so you have the opportunity to gain a variety of skills sets according to your professional goals. SBP's AmeriCorps members currently serve in six locations: New Orleans Metropolitan Region, Louisiana; The Greater Houston Area, TX, Monmouth & Ocean County, New Jersey; New York City, New York; Columbia, South Carolina; and Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Additionally, incoming members are given the opportunity to serve as part of SBP's Traveling AmeriCorps Response Team and may be sent for a month or longer deployments to any community that has recently experienced a disaster event and where SBP's disaster-recovery model will make a high impact. Check out this great video about our members' experience to learn more about serving with SBP: If you would like to apply to serve with SBP, please follow the link provided below.
