Austin Free Net - Fund Development Specialist

Our goal is to “end the digital divide.” The digital divide is the segregation of class and race due to differing amounts of access and expertise in digital literacies. The theoretical divide distinguishes those who hold power and those who do not. Austin Free Net help marginalized populations bridge this divide by providing access to computers with Internet in community centers around the city, along with tutors that work one on one with adult learners to become digitally literate. Some of these people have almost no concept of even the most basic computer skills such as maneuvering a mouse, searching on the web, saving things to a desktop, even knowing what a desktop is! Programs are designed to eliminate the gap. Through one on one coaching or formalized classes, AFN provides training to help clients find jobs, complete applications for social service benefits, navigate the social security website and achieve vendor neutral certifications. AFN also serves as a Perason Vue Testing Center for GED, HVAC and other certifications.
