Connecting Futures Pawtucket
 
 
 
The Pawtucket School Department, in partnership with Blackstone Valley CAP, seeks 16 AmeriCorps State members that will be serve at Tolman and Shea High schools to build a new program to support graduating high school students in one of five pathways – college, paid employment, internship/apprenticeship, national service or military service. AmeriCorps members will be assigned to a cohort of juniors and seniors to support and track participation in the program. The members will serve as career mentors with activities including career awareness and exploration, work and service project experience, academic support and remediation, financial literacy, wrap-around services, higher education access services and ongoing mentoring and follow-through support. The AmeriCorps members will be working with students based on a tiered system of assessed need and risk of each student and student post-graduation interests.

Member Duties : AmeriCorps members will: • Work collaboratively with guidance staff, principals, teachers, and other stakeholders at partner schools to increase the awareness, preparation, for one of the five post-graduation pathways • Provide on-site advising and information about each pathway • Provide individualized support that aligns with each pathway and provide appropriate referrals to other programs or supports • Organize workshops and programming for students and their families • Track student progress toward program goals and manage data information systems • Identify volunteer needs within the Pawtucket school system • Recruit, train, and/or manage community volunteers • Develop programming such as extra-curricular service projects, internship fairs, industry panels, etc. • Expand student internship and job opportunities with local businesses and organizations • Participate in AmeriCorps/State Service activities and events
