Seedleaf - The Plantory - A Connected Community

The Plantory's mission is to increase the capacity and sustainability of the nonprofit sector in Lexington, KY. The proposed VISTA project aligns with economic opportunity, education, healthy futures, veterans and military families, and environmental stewardship through a collaborative, multi-pronged approach to preventing, surviving, and reducing poverty on a micro and macro level in Lexington, KY. The project seeks to connect the resources and efforts of 14 agencies working on various facets of poverty and expects to benefit 1000 people each month. We will build strong interagency relationships and foster cross-sector collaboration so that we have a stronger, more unified and multifaceted approach to fighting poverty. Fourteen VISTA members and one VISTA leader will contribute to the goals of the project through activities like improving environmental efficiency of homes for low-income individuals to reduce utilities costs and support their continued residence, investigating and developing a mobile food van that would deliver healthy, local food to elderly citizens with limited food access, and working on research and services in the city government to end veteran homelessness in Lexington. Together, we hope to develop a more connected effort on the micro and macro level to addressing and preventing the complex issues related to living in poverty.
