20-21 Hunger Intervt Program Food Security & Nutrition Coord
The HIP AmeriCorps position is responsible for the following program components: (1) Coordinating the Healthy HIP Pack Program. This program provides healthy meals to families struggling to access enough food for their children during the weekend when school meals are not available. Because the quality of food is just as important as the quantity, there is a focus on including whole grains, high-quality proteins, and fresh fruit. Healthy HIP Packs are also an important vehicle for directly sharing helpful information with families including news on community resources, nutrition education, and free community events. (2) Coordinating HIP's Nutrition Education programs. HIP conducts Cooking Matters classes in the community. It is a sought-after program in the community. Cooking Matters is a nationally recognized curriculum that helps local families shop for and cook nutritious meals with a limited budget. The AmeriCorps member will be responsible for running three Cooking Matters courses a year in addition to running other one-off classes and food justice workshops. (3) Running activities as part of HIP's Summer Meals program. Every summer, HIP provides free meals to kids and teens, at multiple locations in the North Seattle, along with many child-friendly activities in partnership with many other local organizations. The AmeriCorps member will help with planning, outreach, and the execution of this program. Specifically, they'll be responsible for doing outdoor nutrition education activities with children and youth during the summer. (4) In addition to the above-mentioned programs, the AmeriCorps member will be helping other HIP staff in a variety of roles including volunteer recruitment, fundraising, donor outreach, and food procurement and storage as it relates to their AmeriCorps project. Position Contingent on Funding.
