Program Outline for Transitions Building a Brighter Future Afterschool Program Mission Statement: Assist and help K-12 children be supported, effective, and successful in their education. To inspire students to nurture their ideal capacity to learn and to develop study tools to help them throughout their academic career. Goals: -To create a supportive and accepting environment in their academic & social life.-Cultivate a passion for learning so that they are more apt to go to school and complete their studies to be successful in their academic career.-Become a liaison for the schools where children at TLC are attending, helping ensure that they are improving their attendance and performance.-Building healthy relationships through prioritizing each child’s social relationship to develop their skills to solve essential problems (student relationship). -Help students with their homework to improve student academic performance.-Serve at EduCare to build pre-literacy skills and present anti-bullying curriculum with the staff. Coordinate parent/child activities with the EduCare staff to promote literacy and age appropriate activities. The schedule includes weekly sessions, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 3:15-6 or when needed. Each session includes a check in regarding school and general conversation about the day, snack time, some type of activity including games, legos, crafts and coloring and then homework. After homework, there is free time which includes computer games, or large motor activity in the gym. Appropriate releases and Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) documents must be signed. The third component of the TLC after school program includes the involvement of the parent. This will include coordinating parent-child activities and promoting age appropriate activities. The fourth component includes coordination and support of the Pre-K classroom at EduCare.
