Sharing the Harvest Farm Volunteer Development Coordinator

Since 2006, Sharing the Harvest Community Farm has grown and donated more than 289,000 pounds of fresh, healthy produce to our neighbors in need. The success of the farm is due to the support of thousands of volunteers who help with every task from seeding to harvest every year. In nine short years, more than 12,000 volunteers have helped seed, plant and harvest more than a million servings of fresh food. Fresh fruits and vegetables from Sharing the Harvest are delivered to 17 food pantries along Massachusetts’ south coast in partnership with the United Way of Greater New Bedford’s Hunger Commission. All of the produce is donated, and farm staff and volunteers are responsible for raising the funds to operate each year. Despite a great deal of success there is still a tremendous need in the region for accessible healthy food, and the farm strives to grow its volunteer base and production capacity to meet those needs. In addition to growing food Sharing the Harvest has an increasing commitment to education and community stewardship, and offers field trips, educational workshops, and volunteer opportunities. Sharing the Harvest Community Farm is located at the Dartmouth YMCA and operates as a program of YMCA Southcoast. YMCA Southcoast has been working to provide health and social services to thousands of youth, families and individuals throughout the Southcoast region for nearly 150 years.
