Multnomah County Health Department - Refugee Health Program

This position joins the Oregon Health Authority’s statewide VISTA team. In addition to activities at your individual site, each member receives additional orientation, training throughout the year, team retreats and meetings, and the support of the team leaders and project director based at the state public health agency. For more information about the Oregon Health Authority VISTA Partnership Program, please visit: http://go.usa.gov/39Vd5 This VISTA member, along with two other VISTAs, will be serving at the Multnomah County Health Department. The Department’s Refugee Health Program strives to address health equity through a comprehensive framework of streamlined health services upon arrival to newly arrived refugees to ensure access to comprehensive health services, health literacy, promote emotional wellness and obtain affordable ongoing health care beyond the initial services. Eligible clients receive culturally and linguistically appropriate health screening, follow-up and referrals based on identified need for health conditions and are linked to a primary care provider and social service agency which generally occurs within the first 30 to 90 days. With two other VISTA members in the agency, this position is located in Portland, which is Oregon’s cultural center, dense with independent movie theaters and art galleries. The exceptional public transit system makes it easy to get around the city without a car, no matter if you’re visiting a food cart pod or a public park. With the innovative public health work happening in Oregon, Portland is a wonderful place to explore a future in public health.
