Coos County Public Health – National Agency Accreditation

This position joins the Oregon Health Authority’s statewide VISTA team. In addition to activities at your individual site, each member receives additional orientation, training and professional development throughout the year, team retreats and meetings, and the support of the team leaders and project director based at the state public health agency. For more information about the Oregon Health Authority VISTA Partnership Program, please visit: http://go.usa.gov/39Vd5 The VISTA will work with the public health team on public health accreditation, an exciting new national initiative to accredit governmental public health agencies the way hospitals and colleges are accredited – a rigorous process that’s making public health agencies and staff re-focus on providing the best, most equitable services. The accreditation process measures a health department’s performance against nationally recognized, practice-focused and evidence-based standards in order to advance quality and performance. It provides a framework for a health agency to identify performance improvement opportunities, improve management, develop leadership, and build relationships with the community. Coos Health and Wellness Public Health division is a small local health department in a poor mostly rural county on the Southwest Oregon Coast offering both population based services and direct services. With the assistance of a VISTA member, Coos Health and Wellness Public Health division will be able to identify gaps in services and strategize to fill these gaps through quality improvement initiatives. The VISTA will be one of two VISTAs serving here in North Bend, on Oregon’s beautiful southern coast. The area features the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, featuring 500-foot dunes, and with the ocean just a few miles away, the adjacent bay, and abundant coastal rivers and forests, you can enjoy outdoor activities, local arts and crafts scene, and the relaxing pace of Oregon coastal life.
