Oregon Oral Health Coalition – Partnership & Program Design

This position joins the Oregon Health Authority’s statewide VISTA team. In addition to activities at your individual site, each member receives additional orientation, training throughout the year, team retreats and meetings, and the support of the team leaders and project director based at the state public health agency. For more information about the Oregon Health Authority VISTA Partnership Program, please visit: http://go.usa.gov/39Vd5 The Oregon Oral Health Coalition is a nonprofit organization working statewide to improve oral health for all Oregonians. There is a direct correlation between poverty and the burden of dental disease. Oregon has a historic opportunity to prioritize oral health as a fundamental component of general health, so that health care in our state focuses on the entire body. The Oregon Oral Health Coalition is already recognized for its First Tooth program that educates dental and medical providers and child caregivers to address the most common chronic disease among children – dental caries. The VISTA member will join a team that includes another VISTA member in outreach that spans the life continuum from pregnant women through the geriatric years. Secondary to the rewards of working within a mission driven organization focused on population health is the opportunity to enjoy that work in the Pacific Northwest. The Coalition’s offices are located in a suburb of Portland, Oregon, which boasts a wide variety of activities, cultures, and scenic recreational opportunities. Improving general health through oral health is a worthy mission anywhere, but especially enjoyable in the Pacific Northwest.

Member Duties : Working alongside another VISTA, this position addresses the burden of oral health disease through partnership with diverse populations across a variety of sectors.
