Coalition of Community Health Clinics Development-Outreach

This position joins the Oregon Health Authority’s statewide VISTA team. In addition to activities at your individual site, each member receives additional orientation, training throughout the year, team retreats and meetings, and the support of the team leaders and project director based at the state public health agency. For more information about the Oregon Health Authority VISTA Partnership Program, please visit: http://go.usa.gov/39Vd5 The Coalition of Community Health Clinic’s mission is to improve the healthcare and quality of life for the Portland metro area’s lowest income populations, while promoting continuity of care and health equity. Good health is essential to achieve financial stability, especially for families in poverty, when unexpected medical expenses or missed work can escalate. Last year, member clinics served 55,000 low-income residents. Providers from Portland’s four distinguished medical schools -- conventional allopathic, naturopathic, Chinese medicine, and chiropractic -- are represented in the Coalition. Limited awareness of the Coalition hinders its outreach and effectiveness with potential low-income patients who could benefit from primary care medical referrals and access, healthy living resources, or understanding how to navigate the healthcare system. This VISTA will focus on building awareness and funding for the Coalition’s collaborative services. The position will be in Portland, Oregon’s cultural center, dense with independent movie theaters and art galleries. The exceptional public transit system makes it easy to get around, no matter if you’re visiting a food cart pod or a public park. It’s a quick drive to the coast, Mt Hood, or Columbia River Gorge. With the innovative public health work happening here, it is a wonderful place to explore a future in public health.
