IHN works to: - Foster collaboration and build on the capabilities of the major food-providing community organization - Identify key opportunities and establish projects to make sustainable improvements to the hunger relief system. - Monitor health of overall food system - Create awareness of hunger and how to address it VISTA members placed at IHN work directly with the Board President and develop partnerships with non-profit and government entities to expand access to healthy food. Members are integral to the entire project development process, working to research, develop, plan, implement and evaluate nutrition assistance. VISTA members gain extensive valuable experience in community development and public health, working with a variety of partners.

Member Duties : The VISTA will help coordinate community-based cooking education program in a half dozen sites. This pilot will then serve as the basis for expanding the program to dozens of sites city wide. Elements of the project include 1) the VISTA working with community partners to complete and evaluate the pilot phase 2) the VISTA supporting outreach to faith communities and others to recruit additional sites 3) working as part of a team to develop and implement a plan for full scale implementation of program 4) Assisting with attainment of grant funding to support full scale implementation 5)Deploying and coordinating a team of volunteers to organize and manage the effort at multiple sides 6) monitoring progress and learning from experiences gained.
