About Orange Community Schools Orange Community Schools’ (OCS) mission is to break the cycle of poverty in Orange, NJ by transforming local schools into full-service community education and health centers that help students and their families succeed. OCS operates at Rosa Parks Elementary and Oakwood Avenue Middle School, it is led by Montclair State University with funding from the US Dept. of Education. OCS collaborates and pools the resources and expertise of educators, faculty, and volunteers from Drew University, the Public School District, nonprofits, and residents. This is a New Jersey Campus Compact Statewide Collective Impact AmeriCorps VISTA Project. With our college and university partners, New Jersey Campus Compact is building a cohort of AmeriCorps VISTA members to support the anti-poverty work of 14 large-scale, cross-sector organizations focused on increasing education, economic opportunity, and healthy futures in NJ’s underserved urban areas. We seek a qualified, civic-minded individual to be the AmeriCorps VISTA serving at Orange Community Schools.

Member Duties : AmeriCorps VISTA Duties As a New Jersey Campus Compact VISTA based at Montclair State University’s Center for Community Engagement, you will be a vital team member serving with OCS senior staff, faculty, nonprofits, educators, and volunteers to build OCS’ education and health programs. You will research, develop, coordinate, and help execute the following strategic initiatives: 1. Identify local businesses as collaborators for funding efforts to include in-kind and in-cash donations. 2. Improve and fill gaps within the city-wide Public Relations Campaign for OCS to raise community awareness and use of OCS services 3. Improve the volunteer management systems and create volunteer recognition activities 4. Mobilizing new capacity building resources from Montclair State and Drew Universities for OCS 5. Help develop research and resources to provide OCS context on community needs
