WSC, WithinReach, Bridge to Basics Outreach Specialist

Join the Washington Service Corps WithinReach AmeriCorps Team to help make a positive impact on the health of Washington individuals and families! AmeriCorps Members serve in the Bridge to Basics Program which educates and empowers low-income community members to access health care and local food programs. Even after all of the hype that surrounded health care reform, many Washingtonians do not know how to access health care, nor do they understand essential health care resources available to them. WithinReach AmeriCorps members play a key role in providing education on the health care resources and services available to them. Additionally, our team members ensure that all individuals they encounter know how to access the health care system. In tandem with a strong focus on access to health care, the AmeriCorps program at WithinReach works to decrease hunger in our community. Washington ranks 14th in the nation for number of residents who experience hunger--approximately one-in-four children go hungry every day. A key strategy to combat food insecurity is education about access to resources that will bring more nutritious food the home. AmeriCorps members at WithinReach serve this population by engaging individuals and families with programs and resources including local food banks and farmers markets. Members focus on providing these services in-person to underserved and culturally diverse individuals who many times get overlooked. Through direct client engagement, education, and empowerment you can make a huge impact on health disparities and food security in Washington. This position is contingent on funding.
