Colorado Construction Institute

Colorado Construction Institute (CCI) is a nonprofit training organization providing innovative 21st century pre-apprentice and apprentice programs where disadvantaged people learn the soft and hard skills necessary to bridge the middle-skills gap. Since 2012, CCI's certified construction skills training programs have prepared individuals from across the Denver metro area to overcome socioeconomic barriers to success. CCI was founded to address the issue of unemployment among Colorado's socioeconomically disadvantaged population through the opportunity presented by the ongoing middle-skilled labor shortage in the construction industry. At the same time that Colorado Department of Labor & Employment projects construction industry employment to grow 30% by the year 2022, the National Association of Home Builders and their Home Builders Institute anticipate a 30-35% shortfall in the trained construction labor force as roughly 75% of the construction workforce enters retirement age. CCI works to create a bridge over this so-called "middle-skills gap" by engaging low-income, socioeconomically disadvantaged populations with certified construction skills training programs that prepare individuals for sustained employment in Colorado's fast-growing construction industry. Our adult-focused pre-apprentice and apprentice programs partner with industry employers to teach trainees the exact skills needed for immediate employment. Our youth-focused pre-apprentice training includes YouthBuild, a federally-funded program that serves high school dropouts, and Building Pathways, a series of collaborative programs with local schools that engage high school seniors with construction trades education. CCI provides case management services to help individuals navigate around external barriers while they participate in a skills training program, and post-program placement services to help graduates obtain and retain employment.
