Mentor Program Coordinator - Communities in Schools
 
 
 
Serve as a VISTA Member with MENTOR Virginia (MVA)! MVA is a Richmond-based, statewide 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports mentoring programs around the state of Virginia. During a year of service, VISTA Members will support the development of mentoring programs providing training and technical assistance to mentors and mentoring programs, increasing the quality and quantity of mentoring for Virginia’s youth and mentors. VISTA Members will serve with partner organizations supporting organization's internal capacity in the areas of Program Development; Volunteer Recruitment; Mentor/Mentee Training; Match Support; and Resource Development. Training and Ongoing Support will be provided to assist with these endeavors.

Member Duties : Communities In Schools of Chesterfield County focuses on making an impact on the youth through mentorship. In this school based program, the one-to-one relationship with a mentor can help in many areas that affect life at home and at school. This final year placement will be responsible for fully integrating a research based, sustainable mentoring program in the public school system. You will research best practices in mentoring and assess current mentoring programs for inconsistencies and gaps in service; create training for new mentors; develop and expand policies and procedures for schools to conduct the mentoring program; create and implement a community outreach plan to bring in support for the program and create potential volunteer pools for recruitment of new mentors; and create training materials and plans for staff to fully take over mentoring programs throughout the school system. This work will help create a stronger future for youth by empowering them in schools.
