VMP's mission is to provide training and technical assistance to mentors and mentoring programs to increase the quality and quantity of mentoring for Virginia's youth. VMP has a rich history of motivating the mentoring field by providing training and capacity building services for over 28,000 people in the mentoring; execution of effective mentor recruitment and public relations campaigns; and advocating on behalf of increased resources to the mentoring movement and direct service programs in Virginia. Research supports mentoring as a positive influence on youth that not only enhances their social skills and well-being, but also improves cognitive skills leading to improvement in school outcomes, attitudes, and choices. VMP has a team of full-time VISTA members, including two VISTA leaders, to support the organization's internal capacity and members hosted by sites throughout Virginia to focus on capacity building in the areas of: Program Development, Mentor/Mentee Training, Match Support, and Volunteer Recruitment.
