*MEO HRDC Bozeman Community Cafe

HRDC is a private non-profit community action agency. We serve community members from all walks of life in Gallatin, Park and Meagher counties through 38 programs in seven strategic areas: Food/Nutrition, Housing/Homelessness, Child/Youth Development, Senior Empowerment, Community Transportation, Home Heating/Efficiency/Safety, and Community and Economic Development. We assist low and moderate income households, including children, people with disabilities, the elderly and other vulnerable populations to provide practical solutions to the problems associated with poverty. In response to our community needs, we started the Community Café in 2013. HRDC’s Community Café offers a free, hot dinner 365 days per year. In 2014, the Café served over 50,000 meals. Nightly meals are prepared by the Café chef and served by community volunteers. To make the Café more than just a dinner time space, HRDC is working to implement a sustainable program delivery model which incorporates healthy foods, social enterprise, job training, and community engagement into our operations. The Café serves as the operations center for our KidsPack Program, Summer Lunch Program, and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site. In March 2015 we conducted our first Employment Skills and Culinary Arts Program. The 12-week program provides low-income youth ages 18-24 with life skills and transferable soft skills combined with a robust set of introductory culinary skills that will lead to job placement. Upon completion of the program, participants earn a Basic First Aid/CPR/AED certification as well as a ServSafe Food Handlers or Managers Certification. Graduates are placed in on-the job experiences during the program, and are assisted with placement upon graduation. With the VISTA’s assistance, the workforce development program will provide participants with the opportunity to increase their employment and income earning potential while meeting the needs of local employers.
