Operation AmeriCorps: NYC Community Schools Corps
 
 
 
The NYC Community Schools Corps (NYCCSC), an Operation AmeriCorps program, launched in partnership between NYC Service and the NYC Department of Education, will place more than 150 corps members (i.e. AmeriCorps, VISTA, NCCC) into 128 Community Schools in high-need communities to serve as mentors, reduce absenteeism, and boost parent involvement. The 16 VISTA members will provide capacity-building support to host sites and DOE staff. Community Schools support the social, emotional, physical, and academic needs of students by offering a coordinated approach to increasing opportunities for young people and improving the academic performance of students through partnerships among principals, parents, teachers and community-based organizations (CBOs). NYCCSC VISTA Members will begin service after attending pre-service orientation (PSO) (date and location TBD). Upon successful completion of mandatory PSO, members will serve beginning in February 2016.

Support central logistical activities in the Office of Community Schools. 4. Organize trainings and events/group activities. 5. Coordinate communication between community stakeholders
