*Goodwill VISTA* WHCA-Transportation, Ellsworth, ME

Washington Hancock Community Agency was started in 1966 as part of the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964. Our mission is to bring community resources together to help people in Washington and Hancock counties achieve self-sufficiency and a better quality of life. Community Action agencies serve low income families in 99% of the counties in the US through programs that promote self-sufficiency. The VISTA member will work to expand the Transportation Volunteer Driver Corps through outreach and set up various mandatory driver trainings. The volunteer drivers recruited by the VISTA will provide services to low income (verified – 125% of Federal poverty guide), at risk seniors living alone, and MaineCare members (low income by definition) in one of the two poorest counties in Maine (Washington) and another will significant pockets of low income residents (Hancock). Last year Volunteer Drivers provided over 25,000 rides to medical, nutritional and family reunification visits for DHHS Child Welfare. www.whcacap.org The Goodwill VISTA Partnership is a statewide AmeriCorps VISTA program that builds capacity and sustainability of nonprofits to reduce poverty in Maine communities through indirect service. VISTA members build capacity in their placement sites through volunteer management, fundraising, marketing, program design, etc. to increase services to individuals living in poverty.
