OABC Marion-Polk Food Share Nutrition Outreach Coord 2015-16
 
 
 
Marion-Polk Food Share is located in Salem, Oregon in the heart of the Willamette Valley. The member will be a part of the Agency Relations team of the Programs Department of Marion-Polk Food Share whose mission is “strengthening communities through food; fostering dignity and compassion.” The Agency Relations Team works with 100 local partnering nonprofits and churches to help feed our neighbors in need. The work of the team is centered on helping these partner groups to reach their fullest potential in allowing client choice while fulfilling their local missions and increasing their volunteer satisfaction. This VISTA position will be focused on increasing nutrition awareness at local food pantries through marketing, classes, and food sampling. They will also be responsible for programs that aim to increase the amount of produce going directly to clients through unique and new channels.

Member Duties : The VISTA will promote healthy-living programming at local partnering agencies of Marion-Polk Food Share (MPFS) by taking the lead on creating and overseeing volunteer recruitment, marketing materials, nutrition classes, and Pantry Partners food tasting tables. The member will network with agencies in the MPFS network to increase awareness of MPFS programs. The VISTA will create programs to distribute more fresh produce directly to clients and promote SNAP enrollment. Much of the member’s service will be office based, though some travel to partner agencies will be required. Desired qualifications: BA or above, passionate about health equality and nutrition, outgoing personality, interest in a career in public health, and experience with volunteer recruitment and collaborating with stakeholders. The VISTA will be a part of a team of VISTAs coordinated by Mercy Corps Northwest. Apply by June 8, 2015. Early applications encouraged. Selections made on a rolling basis.
