Welcoming Communities Engagement Specialist (Weslaco)
 
 
 
Texas Impact is looking for volunteers to spearhead a project that will help to meet the needs of the growing population of unaccompanied minors and populations affected by forced migration in Texas. Texas Impact is the largest statewide interfaith network of faith communities in Texas, working to improve the lives of Texans for 40 years. Texas Impact’s mission is to focus on advocacy, education, and research activities to advance state public policies and create networks of engaged Texans. Texas Impact is a supporting organization to the Texas Interfaith Center for Public Policy. WCI Community Engagement Specialist in McAllen will work to connect and establish a strong network of community and faith-based organizations engage, trained, and active in addressing crisis issues with a focus on the current humanitarian crisis concerning forced migration and unaccompanied minors in TX. WCI Community Engagement Specialist will work to establish sustainable resources for organizations by bringing engaged organizations and leaders together, identify unmet needs of vulnerable populations, and establish protocols and processes for helping. WCI Engagement Specialists will look to strengthen program outcomes by creating materials and systems for ongoing sustainability of the WCI network of organizations. WCI Engagement Specialist in McAllen will work closely with local and state disaster networks to create statewide resources, materials, and communication around forced migration and humanitarian crises. As part of this effort, Texas Impact WCI VISTAs will be working with faith communities of all different religious traditions to establish a network of organizations under the “Welcoming Communities Initiative”,” enhancing and better connecting the capacity and effectiveness of the efforts of local, state and faith-based organizations dedicated to helping address forced migration,and humanitarian/future crises.

Member Duties : VISTA members will work with faith-based organizations, state agencies, and local nonprofits to educate and coordinate efforts around humanitarian crises response, relief, and recovery with a focus on unaccompanied children, refugees, and populations impacted by forced migration. VISTA members work in a statewide team to develop resources for all above organizations and create awareness of the issue; Develop a written work plan and timeline for outreach and education; Facilitate local community meetings; Create sustainable resources and educational materials to support the WCI; Maintain accurate records of work; Report on progress in statistical and narrative reports; Serve as public ambassador for the WCI project; Participate in all trainings, conference calls, events, service projects, and other activities; WCI Engagement Specialist may be assigned more program capacity building duties.
