United South End Settlements Volunteer Coordinator
 
 
 
The mission of United South End Settlements (USES) is to build a strong community by improving the education, health, safety and economic security of low-income individuals and families in Boston's historic South End/Lower Roxbury and to serve as a model of successful neighborhood engagement. Programs include early childhood education; after school care for school-age children; vacation and summer day camps for youth; summer overnight camps for boys and girls; adult basic education and job readiness; arts-based youth development programs; technology education classes and open access in our technology center; and home repair, nutrition and recreational services for seniors. The engagement of community volunteers is central to the success of the Settlement House model, which utilizes the skills and experiences of residents to assist in the delivery of services. This project – the Volunteer Coordinator position - will directly impact USES mission to create a community of neighbors helping neighbors and a support system that moves South End/Lower Roxbury residents out of poverty. The selected VISTA candidate will be a member of the Boston Cares AmeriCorps VISTA program of approximately 25 VISTA members serving at more than 10 Greater Boston organizations. Pre-Service Orientation (PSO) for this position will be held August 3-6 in the Boston area. Member Duties : Reporting to the Director of Development, the Volunteer Coordinator will work closely with staff across all departments Key Responsibilities include: • Regularly work with Program Staff to identify needs for volunteer • Recruit and place volunteers • Develop a volunteer recruitment campaign targeting South End/Lower Roxbury residents • Develop a uniform system for volunteer’s to evaluate their experience at USES • Research and develop a formal internship program • Ensure volunteers are having a positive experience • Create a manual that documents the internal assessment, practices developed, and procedures for volunteer coordination.
