Based in the coastal town of Homer, Alaska, this VISTA position is with MAPP of the Southern Kenai Peninsula. Mobilizing for Action through Planning and Partnerships (MAPP) is a locally-driven coalition of over 50 organizations & individuals that uses a broad range of community data and a Collective Impact process to strategically address and improve community health. Having completed a second Community Health Assessment, the community has prioritized action around Increasing Family Well-being by focusing on strategies that build resiliency and decrease Adverse Childhood Experiences. Joining this innovative community effort provides an opportunity to participate in cutting-edge community development work in collaboration with a great group of skilled and passionate partners.

Member Duties : The VISTA volunteer will aide the MAPP coalition in community engagement and partner capacity building in the implementation of a Community Health Improvement Plan for the Southern Kenai Peninsula, Alaska. The VISTA will: 1. Work with the Coordinator and Steering Committee to support and guide community coalitions (also known as workgroups) in the application of the community impact model. This includes assisting with community data entry and creating outreach materials that reflect clear goals of the MAPP mission. 2. Build the capacity of workgroups and the MAPP coalition to help alleviate poverty and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE’s). This project will be full of community participation and input. When completed, the project will have engaged community members in developing and implementing family well-being and resiliency strategies, in addition to tracking the performance or outcomes of these strategies.
