Northern IL Food Bank - Capacity Building - Joliet

The Capacity Building VISTA at Northern Illinois Food Bank will work directly with five to ten network partners during their year of service. He/she will start with an assessment of each partner’s goals for what they see as their needs and work with staff and volunteers to develop a plan for potential improvements, get approval from organization’s Board or leadership and help put the plan into action. Depending on the organization, this could be researching and writing grants for food and funds, engaging and retaining volunteers, improving distribution or intake systems, recommending enhanced client choice or upgrading technology. A particular focus for this position will be developing relationships between food pantries and other food bank programs at schools and youth and senior sites, as well as with other non-profits in the area that are providing services for people in poverty. In counties where there are already established coalitions, the VISTA will ensure their target partners are participating in these coalitions and sharing information on other services with their clients. In counties where these coalitions do not yet exist the VISTA will assess the viability of such a coalition and work towards bringing organizations together using other successful coalitions as their model.
