Maine Campus Compact (MCC) VISTA members will be placed on college campuses, where they will work closely with college students, faculty, staff, community partners, and local schools to develop programming focused on improving the educational outcomes of low-income K-12 students. MCC is a coalition of college presidents, united with the goal of increasing civic engagement in higher education. This VISTA position is based at the University of Maine Presque Isle (UMPI), located in spectacular Aroostook County in northern Maine. UMPI offers a liberal arts curriculum and professional programs to students from the region and beyond, including many from neighboring Canada. The city of Presque Isle serves as an educational and cultural hub for the region, featuring countless recreational opportunities. The UMPI VISTA Member will work with several campus entities and the Central Aroostook Council on Education (CASE) to expand College Access programs to low income and tribal populations through many collaborative initiatives.

Member Duties : This project will continue to serve an essential role in University of Maine Preque Isle's expanding focus on building and sustaining programs that prepare students for post-secondary education, and to help them remain in and be successful upon matriculation. The VISTA will continue development of formal articulation agreements with underserved schools regarding dual-enrollment and/or other early college initiatives with specific attention to STEM disciplines and courses and develop programming (i.e., tutoring, high school – college partnering) to help ensure success in such initiatives, and work with the Director of Student Success on various Proficiency Based Education initiatives designated to transition students from secondary to higher education.
