University of New England

Maine Campus Compact (MCC) VISTA members will be placed on college campuses, where they will work closely with college students, faculty, staff, community partners, and local schools to develop programming focused on improving the educational outcomes of low-income K-12 students. MCC is a coalition of college presidents, united with the goal of increasing civic engagement in higher education. The University of New England seeks a VISTA to coordinate the recruitment, training, and coordination of UNE student volunteers to work with two partner organizations in Biddeford, Maine. YouthBuild helps young people who left high school without a diploma and who want to reclaim their education, gain the skills they need for employment and/or college, and become leaders in their communities. BLAST is a STEM-based, hands-on afterschool enrichment program for under-achieving children at Biddeford Primary and Intermediate Schools. The successful candidate will be a motivated and enthusiastic individual who wants to make a difference in the lives of at risk youth, work in a university setting, and mobilize university students to be engaged in a variety of community service activities with underrepresented populations off campus.
