West Central MN Communities Action, Inc. (Emerge)

This position is part of the Emerge VISTA program and will be serving at West Central MN Communities Action, Inc in Elbow Lake MN. This position will support the Family Assets for Independence in Minnesota (FAIM) program, which is a matched savings project to help Minnesota low-wage earners build assets through the purchase of a home, pursuit of a higher education, or launching of a small business. This is accomplished by FAIM participants placing up to $40 monthly savings from their earned income into Family Asset Accounts (savings accounts) which will be matched 3-1 upon completion of asset contracts. This means a HUGE return on their investment. FAIM has also been a great way for the currently and formerly incarcerated to build up their personal, professional and financial assets, which reduces their rate of recidivism. However, the program continues to be underutilized, and West Central would like to explore the potential barriers to access services and maintaining a successful savings pattern. This statewide program is administrated by West Central MN Communities Action, Inc., a resource agency dedicated to reducing the effects of poverty, helping people to achieve self-sufficiency, and improving the quality of rural life.

Member Duties : We seek a self-motivated person to develop a service delivery model to help currently and formerly incarcerated get connected with Financial Literacy, FAIM savings accounts, and other program services. You will pilot this model within the West Central core service area. Once this is developed and refined, you will make connections with current FAIM agencies as well as recruit new agencies to offer this service model to clientele within their service area. This may involve: surveying, interviewing, and observing FAIM coaches across the state; researching and observing potential curricula, classroom models, and methods of one-on-one coaching; research and interviews with agencies providing service to the currently and formerly incarcerated; and creation and evaluation of your new methodology and curriculum. This is a wonderful position for a person interested in creating change in our community while building up their resume in the area of program development and management!
