Urban Boatbuilders-Development (CSP)

Smell that sawdust! Walk into Urban Boatbuilders on a weekday after school, and you’ll find a loud, thriving workshop, with youth of all backgrounds working together to build beautiful, usable watercrafts from raw lumber. Our instructors work with youth five days a week to teach them invaluable hands-on skills through boatbuilding. Urban Boatbuilders empowers youth to build the skills they need to succeed in school, work, and life through the building and use of wooden boats. The organization’s programs provide experiential learning opportunities to middle and high school students and underserved teens. This AmeriCorps VISTA position will build organizational capacity through multiple avenues of fundraising, relationship building with businesses, and managing outreach efforts. The position will assist with grant work, engaging with past and potential sponsors and partners, and planning and executing outreach and fundraising events. This position will also focus on constructing a pipeline to employment for youth graduating the Apprenticeship Program. Capacity building is some of the most important behind-the-scenes work of the nonprofit world, allowing the programs to keep doing what they do best — empowering youth through woodworking and experiential learning. This position will work in tandem with the Volunteers and Communications VISTA position. **This position is part of the City of St. Paul VISTA Cohort. This cohort provides a learning community of 20 fellow VISTA members all serving within Saint Paul. We provide bi-weekly professional development training and additional support throughout the year.
