Churches United for the Homeless (Emerge)

This position is part of the Emerge VISTA program and will be serving at Churches United for the Homeless in Moorhead Minnesota. At Churches United, we know that having a place to call home makes all the difference. Our Support Services team strives to help people who are staying at the shelter gain knowledge, support, and opportunities to succeed. We work closely with community partners to make sure that our programs truly help people begin anew after experiencing homelessness. Each person and family who faces homelessness has their own circumstance and story. We are proud to offer several different programs to meet people where they are at, and each program shares a common goal: obtaining a place to call home. The resources and support necessary for each case vary, so we are constantly working to make sure that we can attune our services to be most helpful. This includes creating and leading programs that encourage health, foster hope, and build resilience. While residents of the shelter work toward their goals, we must work toward making housing more accessible. Beginning again is tough work, and it takes a team. We seek to be that team to our residents and to the community.

Member Duties : Be a part of the solution! The only way to end the experience of homelessness is to help people access a place to call home. You will help us improve our program for people with criminal records from two angles: helping them gain skills that will help them succeed in housing and helping to make housing more accessible to them. First, we want to look internally. The community already has some educational opportunities for financial and tenant literacy, and you will help make sure that clients have access to those educational resources. Second, you will work with community partners and property management companies to create a system that leads to clients with criminal records securing safe and affordable housing. You will gain skills in networking, program development and management, training, public speaking and communications, and much more. If you are eager to use your talents to make a real impact on homelessness, this is the position for you!
